All About CampFest

Welcome to the one, the only, the original Australian Homeschool Network CampFest! Except that it’s changed – it’s not only one awesome annual camp each year, it’s a series of four annual camps each year hosted by the home educating new owners of Hilltop Resort, the Domansky family!

CampFest has found a permanent home at Hilltop Resort. This expansive caravan park and motel complex situated near the Murray River at beautiful Swan Hill is the perfect venue for our week-long fun-filled activity-based camps for home educating families. Boasting a large Function Room and many other facilities, Hilltop Resort offers scope for a range of different camps and events.

Many years ago the Domansky family created an annual homeschool camp and invited other families to join them in a week of fun-filled activities designed to extend and challenge children’s social and educational development. But more than that, CampFest was designed to be a coming together of like-minded families, a place and time to meet and make long-lasting friendships. And it has definitely achieved those goals, with many families returning year after year!

All four CampFests are hosted by Hilltop Resort owners Jenni and Roman Domansky (Australian Homeschool Network). You are most welcome to attend any or all of the annual CampFests:

NOT Back 2 School CampFest, held first week of February;

CampFest, held each Autumn in March;

WinterFest, held in June; and,

EdFest, held in October to celebrate National Home Education Week

To come to our next CampFest use the Contact Us page to email or call Jenni to register your interest and to book your accommodation at Hilltop Resort!

Our CampFests are proud to be sponsored by the Australian Home Education Association, as well as HEN, the Home Education Network of Victoria, and they are all proudly presented in conjunction with Jenni & Roman Domansky of Australian Homeschool Network  and Beverley and Robin Paine of  The Educating Parent (formerly Homeschool Australia andUnschool Australia).

What happens at CampFest?
Supervised structured physical activities for the children that focus on team building and problem solving start the fun in the morning, followed by a wide selection of different educational and enjoyable activities for the whole family in the afternoon. Parents are encouraged to join in and have fun alongside their children. Volunteers are required to help the children gain the most from each activity. Bring an art, craft or any kind of activity you enjoy and want to share with others for our relaxing but busy afternoon session. In the past parents and children have shown others how to make hula hoops, create bead jewellery, build simple electronic devices, carve soap, decorate cakes and biscuits, test water… all manner of interesting and fun hobbies and activities!
CampFest evenings are full of fun, laughter and sharing too! Put together a team for the Trivia Quiz, always a popular CampFest event. The Concert on the last night showcases an awesome array of talent among the children attending CampFest: songs, dance, jokes, skits and more!
Interwoven throughout CampFest are opportunities for parents to address issues and concerns and have questions answered by experienced home educators about any and all aspects of home educating their children. We are careful to balance structured activities with lots of free play for children and time for parents to relax and chat. The very amenable grounds of Hilltop Resort lend themselves perfectly to CampFest, with ample areas of lush grass, beach style swimming pool, volley ball, tennis courts, playgrounds and a mini-train that circles the animal enclosure.
An essential feature of CampFest is that the evening meal is shared: families come together to eat, get to know each other, share stories about the day and their homeschooling lives. Evening meals are catered during each camp, families prepare their own breakfasts and lunches on their own sites or rooms.
Due to occupational, health and safety rules children are not permitted in the commercial kitchen in the Function Centre.
CampFest doesn’t happen without a lot of work done behind the scenes: we have a team of volunteers, both experienced and inexperienced, who help both before and during camp to make it the awesome experience it is for participants. We always need volunteers to take on some of the support roles of CampFest: An MC, a ‘people person’ comfortable in that ‘out the front’ organisational role, to assist Beverley and Jenni (camp coordinators) for each camp (can be a different person for each camp held during the year).  Each camp also needs a ‘go to’ person, someone that can answer questions, sort minor things out, get information to the right person, manage some of the behind the scenes stuff and, working with the MC, Beverley and Jenni, generally make sure things are running fairly smoothly. Help is available with registration costs for people who volunteer for these major support roles.
Take advantage of Hilltop Resort’s special discounted offer and extend your CampFest stay either side of camp.
