Winter Homeschool CampFest 2016 – Our Snuggliest CampFest!
Our annual Winter CampFest is a lovely relaxed casual camp with an emphasis on chatting and playing games with friends by the cosy fire in the Hilltop Resort Hall…It’s our Games Camp!
Dates: NOON Monday July 18th to 1pm Friday July 22nd 2016
Registration Cost: includes access to all facilities at Hilltop Resort, sessions, materials & activities for adults and children for the whole camp.
Join us for a relaxed week of fun!! Swan Hill’s Mallee weather won’t be warm enough to ensure that our beautiful saltwater beached swimming pool gets a good workout, however, the Wombat Express train runs daily and rides are always included! Try your luck on the almost completed obstacle course! Join in on our Scavanger Hunt with prizes for ALL of the children!
Adult: $50 (over 18 years)
Child (under 5 years): $30
Child (under 2 years): Free
Accommodation Cost: Motel, cabin and ensuite sites are available at Hilltop Resort at a discounted price for CampFest families. Being onsite allows families to get the full benefit from the CampFest experience.
Motel rooms: $375 per family. MAX 5 people per room. (2A 2C Usually $432)
Your motel room has a TV, Air-conditioning and a small kitchenette
Motel rooms have either a queen size bed and two single beds or a queen size bed, a sofa and a single bed.
A portable fold-out single bed can be added to your room for an additional $25.
Cabins: $300 per family. Cabin sizes range from 4 – 6 people. (2A 2C Usually $340)
A more affordable option for larger families!
Ensuite sites: $175 per family. MAX 6 people per site. (2A 2C Usually $300)
Your site includes all power and water and comes with your own private bathroom!
As places are limited you will need to book early to avoid disappointment. Please book by paying $100 deposit for your accommodation and CampFest registration by phoning Jenni 03 5033 1515. Information about CampFest:
Arrive at Hilltop Resort sometime on Monday, from noon onwards. Check in at Reception, then find and settle into your accommodation.
The rest of the afternoon is set aside to settle into camp, grab a copy of the CampFest “Mystery Orienteering” Orientation Activity from the Function Centre Hall, explore Hilltop and become acquainted with the property. Don’t forget to circumnavigate the Animal Enclosure and say hello to the goats, chickens, deer, kangaroos and joeys!
Don’t miss the horse and donkey – they love attention too!
NOTE: Please don’t feed the animals any bread – fruit and veggies only! Or buy them a treat and get a bag of animal feed for $1 from Reception.
At 6.00 pm we’ll have a ‘welcome to camp’ meet and greet session – come to the Hall for a quick safety and expectations talk and we can then enjoy our dinner.
Use the whiteboard to let each other know what is happening when and where: if you want to offer an activity (see the list of ideas), or want a chat group to happen, pick a time and place and write it up! This is your camp – help to make it meet your needs and those of your children!
Because it’s winter most of us won’t be brave enough to venture outside, but rest assured, Swan Hill can warm up nicely during the day, especially if it is sunny and the wind isn’t blowing. Bring your favourite sports equipment and lead the children in an outdoor game or three – nothing gets the body warmer faster!
However, if braving the weather isn’t your thing, don’t despair, there is a collection of books, board, dice and card games at CampFest. Or if you have a favourite game, teach others how to play it, learn a new game from new friends, get a board game tournament happening or whatever! Please tidy and put away games after playing.
WinterFest is a time a place to celebrate learning and we encourage families to bring a favourite art, craft, science or other activity to do with others: camps usually buzz with activity – happy children and parents learning new skills alongside their new friends, learning and playing together. Reimbursement for cost of materials can be negotiated prior to camp, or you can ask for an appropriate donation from participants.
Monday: Jenni will run a Trivia Quiz, I might just need one or two people to help check answers, post results and to hand out prizes to the winning tables each round!
Tuesday: We’ll be looking for someone to MC charades and/or talent quest and/or skits (if there is enough interest) Alternate activities include: Movie, Night Walk, Game Night or Anything child led!
Wednesday: Games Night
Thursday: Don’t forget to prepare or bring an act for the CampFest Concert usually held on the last night, followed by the awesome Disco!
Magic or card tricks, songs, dancing, skits, stand up comedy, jokes, playing musical instruments… adults and children all welcome to perform. Concert and Disco night is a wonderful way to wrap up an awesome CampFest experience.
There will be a Talking Point / Conversation Circle each afternoon hosted by experienced home educators – bring your questions or a topic for discussion. No topic or question is trivial – we’ve all ‘been there done that’ and can learn something from sharing our experiences. Questions about defining what it is we do, how to register, how to identify our children’s learning styles and needs, what resources to use, how we each record our children’s learning journeys, how to get fathers more involved and a host of other issues are welcome.
CampFest afternoons buzz with activity, happy children and parents learning and sharing new skills alongside their new friends, learning and playing together.
Dinner will be in the main hall at 6pm each night – Your evening meals are designed to be inclusive and are a “Pot luck” style dinner with each family providing and sharing a meal.
Wednesday will be a FREE BBQ & sausage sizzle at the BBQ Area.
Please note: for occupational, health and safety reasons children are not allowed in the commercial kitchen.
Lights go out around the venue at 10:30pm: quiet activities only in your cabin, motel unit or site please after this time.
Please check your site, motel unit or cabin thoroughly for personal belongings before you leave (left items will be donated to charity after 3 months). We’d also appreciate some help with checking for and picking up any litter around the venue before everyone heads off too. Don’t forget to stop at Reception, return your key and book your site for next year or for the next CampFest event!

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

- A $100 deposit is required upon booking to secure your registration and accommodation. This is non-refundable.
- Participants agree to abide by the CampFest Code of Conduct at all times.
- Cancellations. Refund minus your $100 deposit is payable only if you cancel more than one week prior to the starting day of the event.
- The advertised Schedule is subject to change without notice. Activities, speakers, workshops, session times, excursions, etc can change: please refer to the notice board in the Function Room during CampFest for updates.
- CampFest organisers and the owners of Hilltop Resort do not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to participants’ property. Be sure to secure your belongings in your accommodation appropriately.
- Hilltop Resort is pet friendly free for en-suite powered sites only. Your pet must be on a leash and under effective control at all times. A pet in a cabin or room will incur a Pet Fee of $50
- We respect your privacy: personal information collected on this site will be used for the purposes of CampFest only and will never be shared with any third parties.
